February 2023
Welcome to the new year. We came down to Florida in early January. It was heart wrenching to see the damage from hurricane Ian. Our street and the entire block around the condo complex was circled by a four foot high mound of trash–stuff that had been removed from the first floor units that had been flooded. It took about three more weeks before a gigantic dump truck with a scoop carted it all away.
Many of the people who live here are not snowbirds like us. These apartments are there homes. In mid February, progress has been made. Units are cleaned out, mold and water damage has been mitigated and drywall is up in some units. Still a lot of work to be done.
Favorite bookstore over onSanibel Island was devistated by the hurricane. RIP Gene’s Books (has nothing to do with me but I liked it even more because of the name.
Mostly I’ve been working on the newer novel although “Time Lost,” is out there making the rounds. Have already collected about eight rejections for stories that I’ve put out there. These are little pieces that can’t seem to find a home.
